Minipark camera parking starts in city of Tiel

The city of Tiel has responded to the wishes of retailers and shoppers, and as of March 2014 the Oude Haven parking lot has again been transformed to post-paid parking. On Tuesday March 4th, Mr. Driessen, City councillor for Traffic, Transport and Mobility, put the new Minipark parking system, also known as "camera parking" in operation.

With Minipark, or camera parking, TMC introduces an entirely new form of post-paid parking. A Minipark system has no barrier; Minipark opens up the entry and exit. Instead of a barrier installation, with camera parking the number plates of all passing vehicles are scanned. Parkers don’t get a ticket, instead they pay their parking fee just before departing, by entering their plate number at the parking meter.

By offering post-paid parking, visitors can do their shopping at their own pace, without having to fear that their parking time expires and risking a fine. The barrier installation on the Oude Haven parking lot  also had a lot damaged due to collisions and vandalism. Minipark offers all the benefits of post-paid parking, without the disadvantages of a physical barrier.

After the city of Tiel, more sites will start with camera parking, it slowly begins its march through the Netherlands.
